Marvin Berenblum joined National Executive Service Corps in June 2003 as President and Chief Executive Officer. He became Chairman and CEO in June 2005.
He came to NESC after 14 years with the search firm of Heidrick & Struggles, where he was Area Managing Partner with oversight for the New York, Wall Street, Philadelphia and Greenwich offices. Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles in 1989, he served as Senior Vice President for Human Resources and as a member of the Operating Committee of the media company Knight Ridder, Inc. In his earlier career, Mr. Berenblum was associated with Continental Grain Company as Senior Vice President for Human Resources and as a member of its Board of Directors.
Mr. Berenblum graduated from Yale University with a BA degree in American Studies, and received a Master’s degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University. He also completed the Advanced Management program at Harvard Business School.
Elizabeth Weber joined National Executive Service Corps as President in January 2006.
Previously, in a career that spanned almost three decades, she established a successful record in the global consulting field, involving contacts at the highest level of major corporations and governments. As co-owner and principal consultant with consulting firms in Dubai, London and the US, she has worked with executives in multi-national corporations, officials in government and government agencies, and with owners/CEOs of small- and medium-sized businesses to help them develop and implement strategies for growth. Prior to joining NESC, Ms. Weber was a Director of Edge Development Group, Inc., an international consulting firm based in Ridgefield, CT.
Ms. Weber has been involved in the nonprofit world for many years. She was a founder and Board President of the Art Society of Dubai. She is a past President of the Connecticut Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), a past Director of NAWBO’s national Board, and the founder and past Chair of the national organization’s International Forum. She was recently appointed to an OECD task force that is developing programs to promote and encourage women’s entrepreneurship in 16 countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
Ms. Weber was selected by Toronto-based The International Alliance for Women (TIAW) as a recipient of their 2009 World of Difference Awards, given annually to women from around the world who have had a positive impact on the economic empowerment of women.
Ms. Weber is a graduate of Wheaton College, Norton, MA, where she was a Wheaton Scholar.
Jonathan Goldfarb has been NESC’s Chief Financial Officer since 2004.
Previously, he was a Wall Street investment analyst for 32 years. The last 25 years of that time were spent at Merrill Lynch, where he was Managing Director and Senior Analyst in the Fundamental Research Department. For many years Mr. Goldfarb ranked at the top of various polls and “teams.” Previous employers included Loeb, Rhoades & Company, Drexel-Burnham and Chase Manhattan Bank. He is also an arbitrator in securities cases for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
Mr. Goldfarb is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He has an MBA in Finance from Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics from Hobart College, where he was chosen outstanding member of his graduating class.
In 2002 Paul Barrett joined National Executive Service Corps as Senior Vice President of Executive Search.
His objective is to strengthen the management of nonprofit organizations by placing outstanding executive talent. Since joining NESC, he has conducted searches for senior-level management in widely diverse healthcare, social service, religion, education and arts organizations.
Mr. Barrett has over 30 years of successful executive-level marketing and client service management experience. He started his career in brand management with the General Foods Corporation and the Warner Lambert Company. He has served as Senior Vice President-Group Account Director for major integrated communications companies. His carefully selected, trained and empowered teams generated over $7 billion of incremental revenues.
He is a graduate of Lafayette College with a BA in History and a minor in Economics, and of the Wharton Graduate School of Business, where he earned an MBA in International Business and Marketing.
Mr. Barrett is a Board Member/VP-Treasurer of The William T. Morris Foundation and serves on the Reunion Planning and Fundraising Committees for Lafayette College. He was an elder in the Matawan Presbyterian Church, Vice Chairman of the Financial and Education Planning Committees and served on the Pastor Search Committee.
NESC Senior Vice Present Stephen Koller has headed the Education, Government and Religion Consulting Groups since May 2006.
He is an expert in management and organization. In senior posts at GlaxoSmithKline, Sterling Drug and Block Drug, both within the US and internationally, and as a private consultant to a wide range of life sciences firms and organizations, he has acquired considerable experience in organization assessment and development, supply chain management, operations management and design, performance improvement and strategic planning.
And in his stint as Director in the New York State Department of Economic Development, he gained valuable background in economic development management.
Mr. Koller earned his MA in International Relations at Creighton University and his MBA at the Garvin School of International Management (Thunderbird).
For 16 years, Betty Lefferts has headed NESC’s Arts & Culture Consulting Group as an NESC Senior Vice President.
An accomplished freelance fundraising consultant and grant writer, she formerly was Executive Director of the Girls Club of New York and of The Karen Horney Clinic, and Director of Development for the Cancer Prevention Research Institute, the Audrey Cohen College and Lehman College of the City University of New York.
Ms. Lefferts earned her MS Degree from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, her BS (in Chemistry) from the University of Michigan and her Certificate in Not-for-Profit Management from Columbia University. A trained and skilled musician, she performs in and organizes chamber music programs.
Jane Marsh joined National Executive Service Corps in December 2009 as Vice President of Executive Search, serving Connecticut and Westchester & Rockland Counties.
Most recently she was the Managing Director and founder of Waterview Consulting, LLC, an independent consulting firm she founded in 2006 to serve clients in the executive search and boards of directors’ practices. Previously, from 1992 to 2006, Ms. Marsh was in the Stamford, CT office of the search firm Heidrick & Struggles. Her positions there included, successively, Senior Associate of the Global Industrial Practice, Healthcare Practice, and, most recently, the Board of Directors Practice. Earlier in her business career, she was associated, in a research capacity, with the executive search firms SpencerStuart, Russell Reynolds Associates, Boyden International and Handy Associates.
Ms. Marsh’s board memberships have included Greenwich Library, Friends of the Byram Shubert Library and Greenwich Green and Clear. She holds a BA degree in French and Economics from St. Lawrence University.
For 25 years, Jerry Schiller has directed the operations of NESC’s Healthcare Consulting Group as its President.
He has managed the marketing of consulting services, recruited and trained consultants and supervised more than 300 consulting projects. He was Project Director of the Robert Wood Johnson/NESC Community Provider Initiative and also Project Director of the NESC/United States Environmental Protection Agency Diesel School Bus Initiative.
Before joining NESC, he was Senior Vice President of Lonza, Inc., a subsidiary of Alusuisse, a Swiss aluminum and chemicals manufacturer, where, as a member of the management team, he gained considerable experience in sales, marketing, manufacturing, engineering and administration, including profit planning and long-range strategic planning.
Mr. Schiller earned both his BS and MS in Chemical Engineering at Cornell University, was a board member of the Cornell Research Foundation and now sits on Cornell’s University Council.
Joseph Townsend was appointed Senior Vice President of the NESC Social Services and Social Enterprise Group in September 2008.
From 1997 to 2006, he was a Senior Financial/Operations executive concentrating in the Latin American resort/leisure industry. His management experience successively includes Treasurer, Secretary Treasurer and Senior Vice President for Club Med, Inc. (NYSE) between 1972 and 1997.
Previously, Mr. Townsend was Controller and then Senior Vice President and CFO for Club Med Sales. He has various additional professional experience at the Kenton Corporation, a retailer; ITT Corporation headquarters; and Holt Rinehart and Winston publishing.
From 1998 until joining NESC in 2006, Mr. Townsend was an investor in and consulted for several travel-related clients in South America.
He attended Queens College (CUNY).
Margean Gladysz was appointed Vice President and Regional Director of NESC New Jersey in February 2003.
She has held positions at AlliedSignal Corporation in plant management, project management, strategic planning, engineering and quality, was executive director of the NJ Governor’s Office of Volunteerism and, when chairing the Red Bank Community YMCA Board of Directors, led a successful $3.4 million capital campaign.
Nationally recognized for her work with nonprofit boards, she is the immediate past chair of the Board of Trustees of the Center for Nonprofits, is a Leadership New Jersey fellow, teaches Volunteer Management at Brookdale Community College and previously taught the Seton Hall University graduate course Leadership and Management of Nonprofit Organizations.
She earned her BS in Industrial Engineering from Western Michigan University and her MBA from Indiana University.
Elaine McDonald was appointed Vice President and Regional Director of NESC Central Connecticut in May 2005.
She is a former President and CEO of Aetna Bermuda, a subsidiary of Aetna Inc., where she worked for nearly three decades. Founder of the McDonald Group, she assists businesses and other private sector organizations with strategy design and business development.
She has served on the board of Aetna Life and Casualty Bermuda and of a local community action group, and currently serves on the board of The Children’s Museum.
She earned her BA from Albertus Magnus College and a certificate in French language studies from CLE in Tours, France.
Sergio Sedita became Interim Regional Director of NESC Long Island in November 2007.
He joined NESC in 2000, after a successful 40-year career at Chase Bank. His banking experience covers a wide spectrum of functionalities, from branch administration to marketing and product development.
As an NESC consultant, Mr. Sedita has had the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of the nonprofit community and to work with a wide range of clients in such areas as strategic planning, board development, marketing and branding.
He holds a BA and an MA from the City University of New York.
